Here’s the deal. I have always been told that in order to
learn any skill, get any job, or be anything—you just need to practice. “Practice
makes perfect” they say. Well I disagree, practice makes practiced. Practice
the WRONG methods and you’ll get REALLY good, at executing poor methods.
“As to the methods there may be a million and then some, but
principles are few. The man who grasps principles can successfully select his
own methods. The man who tries methods, ignoring principles, is sure to have
trouble.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
It’s important that we have a
communal paradigm shift. We are living in a time where we have so many amazing
resources available to us, how can we not hold ourselves to a better standard
than we would have 50, 30, or 10 years ago?! I’m interested in challenging the conventional
methods by which we do just about everything. No no no—I’m not talking about
anarchy here! I am however talking about a very straightforward and methodical
way of pinpointing the information that is most important and tuning out all of the other information that is not (commonly referred to as the 80/20 Princple). Imagine a world where 80% of your results came from only 20% of your efforts, and ya know what--forget about the other 20% of the results! If you could become passably good in a new language or instrument in a month, would it be worth it to spend an additional 5-10 years to become fluent? If you could learn the majority of the life skills that you would need to land a job or the guy/girl of your dreams in only a month, why would you waste any more time-- get out there and land that job, and start dating the man/woman of your dreams! I think that together we can achieve many great things in as little as a month.
